This is not to say there aren’t a zillion highly scientific reasons to wear your baby, because there are!
But, since I have written just about every one of these posts with BabyGirl strapped to my chest, snoozing away, all the babywearing joy is just bubbling out of me so..
I just gotta share some of my favorite benefits of babywearing!
1. Nursing In Public is Way Easier.
Even though I made a new commitment to bravery, I have to admit it can be way harder than I thought. I just get really, really scared to nurse in public sometimes. Enter: The Babywearing Secret to Subtlety! You almost can’t even tell, right? For my more timid moments, it’s the perfect solution.
2. You Look Like A Supermodel.
The first time I wore BabyGirl to a party, I asked my hubby if I looked okay. He said, “Are you kidding?! You look like a perfect model in a magazine.” Um, okay?! Excuse me while I just wear her all the time, then.
3. Head Sniffing Is Much Easier (And More Subtle).
I’ve met people who wouldn’t admit it, but I’ve never met someone who could deny the overwhelming desire to smell the sweet heads of a baby in their arms. When baby’s strapped right to me, there’s no end to the delightful whiffs of baby scent! (And for you judgers out there, how do you know I wasn’t just leaning my head down for a kiss?)
4. Get-Stuff-Done Time!
Admittedly, it is a tiny bit more difficult to do chores with a little person attached to you. But wearing that little person keeps them close with your arms free, so it’s much easier to get something done, all the while still filling up your baby’s love tank.
5. Lose the Baby Weight Without Doing Anything!
Okay, so you do have to do something. You have to wear your baby. But I’d say strapping an ever-increasing weight to your middle or back as you prance around the house definitely counts as endurance training. But, in my humble opinion, it’s a lot more fun than….well just about any form of exercise. And, while I have a serious beef with our culture’s obsession with baby weight-loss, it really does help those post-partum pounds meander off your body a little more easily.
6. It’s Worry-Free.
Maybe this is just me, or just because I’m still a first-timer, but when my Girl naps alone, I sometimes feel the need to check on her compulsively. I want to make sure she’s not too cold or hot, not lonely, etc. etc. etc…..Wearing her means I know she’s fine every minute.
7. Cuddle Naps are, simply, the Best Naps.
My little Love takes her longest, most contented naps when I wear her. This means she is well-rested, and much happier the rest of the day. I mean, who doesn’t like to sleep in the arms of the one they love?
8. It’s So Good For Both Of us.
Being worn is good for Baby’s body systems to be close to me. Its good for her emotional and social development. It may even help her learn to walk. It allows her to nurse more easily and frequently….Okay, sorry. I cheated. That might be a littleee bit of science. But knowing how good for baby it is to wear her brings such a deep contentment for me. I love and need that very much.
